A personal turning point came when I sustained an injury requiring urgent eye surgery for a retinal detachment. Despite believing I was a permanent part-time employee entitled to workers' compensation, my employer told me, "That is what income protection insurance is for." She then quietly let my support coordination participants go without my knowledge.
Rather than letting bitterness take over, I chose to create a solution. I founded the Support Coordinator Network to offer the tools, training, and safe community space that providers so desperately need.
